Information Technology Glossary of Terms and Abbreviations

  • CSS: Cascading Style Sheets, a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language like HTML.
  • Eclipse IDE: IDE for Java, PHP, C/C++, and so forth.
  • HTML: Hypertext Markup Language, the standard markup language for creating web pages.
  • IDE: Integrated Development Environment. A tool which makes programming easier through programming language aware text editing, syntax checking, formatting, debugging, etc.
    • Popular IDE's include NetBeans, IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, Microsoft Visual Studio, and so forth.
  • IntelliJ IDEA: IDE for JVM based languages such as Java, Scala, Groovy, Kotlin.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio: IDE for C, C++, Visual Basic .NET, C#, F#, JavaScript, TypeScript, XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, and so forth.
  • Microsoft VS Code: A source code editor (and lightweight IDE) developed by Microsoft for Windows, Linux and macOS. It includes support for debugging, embedded Git control, syntax highlighting, intelligent code completion, snippets, and code refactoring, and so forth. Supports many programming languages.
  • NetBeans IDE: IDE for desktop, mobile and web applications, support Java, JavaScript, HTML5, PHP, C/C++, XML, HTML, Groovy, Javadoc, JavaScript, and JS. Free. Open source.
